Part 1: Safari Itinerary

  1. ARRIVE IN LIVINGSTONE: 2 NIGHTS
    Your safari will start in Livingstone with a transfer from Livingstone Airport to Taita Falcon Lodge.
  2. TRANSFER TO THE KAFUE: 6 NIGHTS

    6 nights will be spent between the Nanzhila camps beginning with 3 nights at Plains Camp and then 3 nights further up north at Lake Camp.

  3. TRANSFER TO LUSAKA: 1 NIGHT 

    1 night will be spent at Pioneer Lodge in Lusaka.

1. livingstone airport – taita

Taita Falcon Lodge, Livingstone

This safari begins with 2 nights at Taita Falcon lodge located in Livingstone, 11km from Victoria Falls. Upon arriving at Livingstone Airport (or Victoria Falls airport) our team will meet you at the arrivals to drive you into camp.

Perched high on the gorge with breathtaking views, Taita Falcon Lodge offers a mix of peaceful serenity and adventure around Victoria Falls. The lodge is a great base for various additional activities such as Falls tours, Devil’s Pool, white water rafting, bungee jumping and helicopter flights. Other activities that can also be added nearby include sunset cruises, day trips to Chobe and visits to the Elephant Cafe. Accommodation will be in our Falcon Chalets providing a tranquil retreat amidst the grandeur of the gorge.

2. taita Falcon lodge – nanzhila plains camp

3 nights in the Southern Kafue National Park

Following your 2 nights Taita Falcon lodge, we will transfer you into the Kafue National Park for your 3 night stay at Nanzhila Plains Camp. Approx drive time from Taita – Plains Camp is 5 hours and 30 minutes. 

Nanzhila Safari Camp features a spacious thatched lounge and dining area situated on a raised teak deck, offering a prime vantage point to listen to or watch surrounding wildlife – from the subtle tread of bushbuck on twigs to the unmistakable sounds of elephants feeding nearby. Meal times are tailored to activities and served in traditional fashion, in the main area. When it comes to activities, guests can enjoy game drives and bush walks and can expect to see a variety of antelope species, lion, leopard, elephant, cheetah, and wild dog. The camp’s five chalets, each accommodating two guests, are positioned along the treeline, offering unobstructed views of the dambo, ensuring a serene and peaceful stay. En suite facilities in the chalets feature hot and cold showers, toilets, and wash basins for added comfort.

3. nanzhila plains camp – NANZHILA LAKE CAMP

3 nights in the Central Kafue National Park

From Nanzhila Plains Camp, you will be driven 2.5 hours north to Lake Camp. 

Located in a prime game viewing area close to Lake Itezhi-tezhi, Lake Camp embodies the signature Smith Family hospitality and meticulous attention to detail. Situated near Lake Itezhi-tezhi, guests can expect to see diverse array of wildlife, from elephant and buffalo to hippo, wild dog, puku, lion, cheetah and leopard all set against the backdrop of expansive floodplains and scenic shorelines. Activities at Lake Camp include game drives and walks along the lake’s shoreline and floodplains, allowing guests to delve into the rich tapestry of bird and wildlife species that enhance the camp’s charm. Accommodation options include 5 ensuite chalets and a 2 bedroom family cottage each with covered verandahs and views of the lake (season dependant).

4. NANZHILA LAKE CAMP – Lusaka

1 night at Pioneer Lodge, Lusaka

Following your 6 nights in the Kafue, you will arrive at Pioneer Camp, which is located on the outskirts of Lusaka. The lodge consists of a range of chalets and a campsite, a bar and restaurant. Guests can relax in the on-site swimming pool and peruse the bar’s library and curio shop which showcases local crafts. Surrounded by safe countryside, Pioneer offers some walking trails and excellent birdwatching opportunities in the miombo woodland.

  1. LUSAKA – MFUWE (FLIGHT)

    Fly from Lusaka International Airport to Mfuwe 

  2. 3 NIGHTS LUAMBE NATIONAL PARK

    From Mfuwe, you will be collected and driven to Luambe Camp for a 3 night stay.

  3. 3 NIGHTS NORTH LUANGWA NATIONAL PARK

    From Luambe, you will venture further up north into North Luangwa for a 3 night stay.

  4. RETURN TO LUAMBE FOR 1 NIGHT

    Return to Luambe for 1 night before continuing south to Painted Dogs Lagoon in South Luangwa. 

  5. 3 NIGHTS IN SOUTH LUANGWA

    From Luambe, you will be taken to Painted Dogs Lagoon for your final 3 nights.

  6. MFUWE – LUSAKA (FLIGHT)

    Your outgoing flight will be from Lusaka International Airport.  

5. MFUWE – LUAMBE CAMP

3 nights in Luambe National Park

After a night’s rest at Pioneer Lodge, you will be taken to Lusaka International Airport for a short flight to Mfuwe where the 2nd half of your safari will begin!

Situated along the banks of the Luangwa River, Luambe Camp offers a safari experience reminiscent of the unspoiled days in the Luangwa Valley. Being the only visitors in the park, guests will have the priviledge of experiencing a forgotten piece of Africa! The camp, nestled in an intimate setting, beckons guests to partake in a variety of activities, including game drives, walks, sundowners in our “hippos hides,” and sleep-outs on the banks of the Luangwa. The four safari tents seamlessly blend rustic charm with modern comfort, each boasting en-suite bathrooms and spacious interiors that transport guests to a different time, promising an unforgettable safari experience in the heart of Africa.

6. LUAMBE CAMP – NORTH LUANGWA NATIONAL PARK

3 nights in North Luangwa National Park

From Luambe Camp, you will be driven 4 hours north to possibly the WILDEST part of Zambia – North Luangwa National Park.

North Luangwa River Lodge consists of 4 open air thatched bungalows overlooking the Luangwa River. The position of the lodge in proximity to the river lends itseld to some brilliant game vewing right from the confromt of your chalet and with the lodge being unfenced, expect the occasional wildlife visitor to walk right through camp. Activities include game drives and walks with the option of also visiting the Rhino Sanctuary. 

7. NORTH LUANGWA – LUAMBE – SOUTH LUANGWA 

3 nights in South Luangwa

From North Luangwa, you will have 1 night back at Luambe before continuing to Painted Dog’s Lagoon in South Luangwa.

Painted Dogs Lagoon offers a serene bush experiences with a focus on relaxation and game viewing. Catering to eight guests, the lodge offers a tranquil alternative to traditional safaris. Guests can enjoy wildlife sightings from the lodge but will also have the option of going into South Luangwa National Park for game drives and walks. The Njobvu Platform, designed for families or small groups, includes a lounge, dining area and hot tub overlooking a lagoon frequented by wildlife.

8. PAINTED DOGS LAGOON – MFUWE – LUSAKA

Departure Day

Your last night at Painted Dogs Lagoon will mark the end of your epic 19 night safari! From Painted Dogs, we will drive you to Mfuwe Airport in time for your outgoing flight to Lusaka International Airport.
